Elevation Grade Calculator
Enter every measurement Elevation Grade Calculator asks for, then press Calculate. The result stays blank while you are still typing.
Press Calculate after the entries are in.
What Elevation Grade is for
Elevation Grade Calculator is the page to open when you need elevation grade from measurements you already have. It belongs with the other construction calculators because that is the work this arithmetic supports. On a roof, that slope is the roof pitch calculator. Type the entries first. The result stays hidden until you press Calculate, so a half-finished form never flashes a number you might mistake for the answer.
How to fill in this calculator
- Rise. Enter the value this part of the job needs. The unit list on this field includes in, ft, yd, mi, cm, m.
- Run. Enter the value this part of the job needs. The unit list on this field includes in, ft, yd, mi, cm, m.
The formula in plain language
Pitch is how far the roof rises for every 12 units of run. Percent grade is the rise divided by the run, times 100. The angle in degrees is the inverse tangent of rise over run.
A worked example
A roof that rises 6 inches for every 12 inches of run is a 6/12 pitch, a 50% grade, and a 26.6 degree angle.
Rise, run, degrees, and percent grade are the same slope. This elevation grade result should agree with rafter length from the pitch and rise and run.
Mistakes that move the answer
- Run is horizontal, not the length of the rafter.
- A 6/12 pitch is not a 6 degree angle.
How to check the result
After Calculate shows the elevation grade result, redo the last operation with a pencil using the rounded figures on the screen. Matching that check means the inputs were read correctly. If you edit a label or a sentence in this HTML file, reload the page. The form and this article both live in the file, so the edit is what visitors will read.
