Percentile Calculator

Enter every measurement Percentile Calculator asks for, then press Calculate. The result stays blank while you are still typing.

Press Calculate after the entries are in.

What Percentile is for

Percentile Calculator is the page to open when you need percentile from measurements you already have. It belongs with the other math calculators because that is the work this arithmetic supports. The average of that data is the mean of the numbers. Type the entries first. The result stays hidden until you press Calculate, so a half-finished form never flashes a number you might mistake for the answer.

How to fill in this calculator

  1. Score. Enter the value this part of the job needs.

The formula in plain language

Tile count is the room area divided by the area of one tile, with the grout joint added to both the width and the length of the tile. Round up to a whole tile. Boxes are the tile count divided by the number of tiles in a box, rounded up.

A worked example

A 10 foot by 12 foot floor is 120 square feet. A 12 inch tile with a 1/8 inch joint covers about 1.02 square feet, so the floor needs 118 tiles before cuts. Buy extra for the cuts along the walls.

Mean, spread, and a z-score describe one data set. This percentile result should be read with z-score and permutation calculator.

Mistakes that move the answer

  • A 12 inch tile with grout is slightly larger than one square foot. Ignoring the joint overbuys by a little, which is safer than underbuying.
  • Diagonal layouts need more waste than a straight grid.

How to check the result

After Calculate shows the percentile result, redo the last operation with a pencil using the rounded figures on the screen. Matching that check means the inputs were read correctly.
